MIGRAIN assessment 1 - learner response

 21 marks   Grade |B

WWW - An excellent first assessment; Q3 in particular but also good points elsewhere. Well done!

WBI - Additional narrative theories in question one.

         - Social + cultural context questions. We will discuss in class and also look at this in the blog LR.

1 Todorov: disequilibrium suggested by gun; character eyeline looking off-screen suggests

danger or threat; tagline references ‘survival’; no hint of new equilibrium.

Q1: "Some environments are harder to live in"

Q2: In both figures a male is portrayed.

Q3: the type of genre can be more enjoyed by audiences so the media production can be more successful

3 My weakest question was Q1 as I didn't include many narrative theories. I only spoke about Barthes action and enigma codes. I could include

• Todorov: disequilibrium suggested by gun; character eyeline looking off-screen suggests

danger or threat; tagline references ‘survival’; no hint of new equilibrium.

• Barthes’ enigma and action codes: gun, tower blocks, review quotes.

• Propp’s character types: urban hero established through costume & props.

• Narrative codes suggest action, violence and confrontation – genre of order (Shatz)
